The courses offered in this division are a combination of classes and materials geared towards a variety of agencies and personnel such as - law enforcement officers who want to incorporate a greater understanding of the medical response and their responsibilities into daily situations encountered; EMS providers who want to improve their interactions with commissioned law enforcement and increase their personal safety responding to calls; and the regular citizen who is not paid, but feels the a commitment to provide assistance to their neighbor.

 

Developed from the needs voiced by Fire, Police and EMS providers all courses offered from this division, whether classroom or online certified CE courses, will be constantly evolving in order to reflect current challenges being faced in the field. We encourage student feedback to make this possible.

Situational Awareness

Pepper Spray for Self-Defense

The Pepper Spray for Self-Defense course is designed for those who wish to carry pepper spray as a self-defense tool. This 4 – Hour course will provide students with a comprehensive overview of the use of pepper spray in a variety of situations and will dispel myths associated with pepper spray. Students will leave the course with not only an understanding of how to use and deploy pepper spray, but also decontamination of subjects and areas after its use.

 

Upon completion of this course students will be able to name the active ingredient and describe the functional components contained in pepper sprays; distinguish the major differences between pepper spray and other chemical agents; describe different delivery methods; describe the effective target areas for using pepper spray, understand how to decontaminate and clean up after use; and be able to articulate when the use of pepper spray is justified.   

 

Students will also receive a course completion certificate from Counter Assault (OC-10).

TacMed for Schools: Responding to Emergencies Beyond  First Aid

The TacMed for Schools program will provide teachers, school administrators and security personnel the tools and knowledge to keep children safe during emergencies similar to the Sandy Hook incident, be able to secure weapons (if necessary), and provide the necessary basic first aid medical care until help arrives.

 

This course also will provide schools staff and administrators with options to developing emergency response plans to keep children safe with emphasis placed on communication needs, evacuation sites, shelter in place needs, and first aid supplies and equipment.

 

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to manage victims of all ages suffering from cardiac arrest, and first aid emergencies. Emphasis is placed on the importance of providing immediate care to improve patient survival and the importance of teamwork within help efforts, knowing the basics of firearm safety, the importance of situational awareness and communication with 911 response.

 

Students will also receive a course completion card for American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR and First Aid valid for 2 years.

NRA Refuse To Be A Victim

NRA Basic Pistol Course

This 8-hour course contains online blended learning, classroom review and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. One goal of this course is the development of good firearm fundamentals for firearm handling and marksmanship.

NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) Training

This 9-hour course course teaches the basic duties a Range Safety Officer (RSO) performs. Our goal is to develop NRA certified Range Safety Officers (RSOs) who posses the knowledge, skills and attitude essentail to organizing conducting and supervising safe shooting activites and range operations. 

 

The course provides a thorough introduction to: the role of an RSO; range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); range safety briefings; range inspections and rules; emergency procedures; and how to clear firearm stoppages and correct malfunctions.

 

You must be 21 or older to attend this course.

 

Students will receive the NRA Basic Range Safety Officer Student Study Guide Packet and upon successful completion an NRA course completion certificate

RSO CPR & First Aid: Managing Injuries & Emergencies on the Range

B-CON: Bleeding Control 
 
Cost: $50.00       

 

This new 2 ½ hour course teaches participants the basic life-saving medical interventions, including bleeding control with a tourniquet, bleeding control with gauze packs or topical hemostatic agents, and opening an airway to allow a casualty to breathe. The course is designed for NON tactical law enforcement officers, firefighters, security personnel, teachers and other civilians requiring this basic training.

 

Upon completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Explain the rationale for early use of a tourniquet for life-threatening extremity bleeding.

  • Demonstrate the appropriate application of a tourniquet to the arm and leg.

  • Describe the progressive strategy for controlling hemorrhage.

  • Describe appropriate airway control techniques and devices.

  • Demonstrate the correct application of a topical hemostatic dressing (combat gauze).

The course was developed in response to efforts by the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security and Health and Human Services to increase collaboration between law enforcement, the fire service and EMS in responding to active shooter/IED/mass casualty events. B-Con is consistent with the recommendations of the Hartford Consensus on Improving Survival from Active Shooter Events. The Hartford Consensus recommends that an integrated active shooter response should include the critical actions contained in the acronym THREAT:

  3. Rapid Extrication to Safety

  4. Assessment by Medical Providers

  5. Transport to Definitive Care
